Moab Utah Area Offroad Trails
Moab Offroad Trails
There are literally hundreds of miles of offroad trails in the Moab area. Moab offroad trails are categorized in basically two distinct groups; Public lands or privately owned. In our Moab Easter Jeep Safari section we cover in good depth descriptions and locations of the trails used in the "safari". In addition to the officially sanctioned offroad trails, there are many other Moab trails that are very popular.
Some of the privately owned offroad trails in Moab charge access fees for the "opportunity to drive off the side of a mountain", such as the world famous "Lions Back", shown above right. Other privately owned moab offroad trails are free to us "idiots that want to play on the rocks and put on a show" and only charge the spectators to witness the sometimes wild show. "Dump Bump", seen left, is one of those private offroad areas that charge spectator fees.
Dump Bump is a very popular hangout during the Moab Easter Jeep Safari and gets quite exciting as the day progresses (digresses)? It's kind of like spring break in the desert. "Potato Salad Hill" is another popular Moab offroad area, although it is on public land. It is located behind the "Most Beautiful Dump in the World". The "Proving Grounds" is located on private land and unfortunately is more often closed than open.
Area BFE, a private recreation area features a number of great offroad trails as well as areas reserved for hiking and non-motorized vehicles. Fantastic offroad vehicle trails include Helldorado, guaranteed to damage your 4x4, Strike Ravine, Black Flag (no one has ever completed this trail), Minor Threat, Green Day, Suicidal Tendancies (only open when EMT's are present) and Test Zones.
